The Social Ministry Committee of St. John’s strives to alleviate the economic hardship and suffering experienced by our neighbors both near and far.
Among other endeavors, we collect food, toiletries and household supplies to stock food pantries and help homeless shelters throughout the metropolitan area. For many years, we have joined with Lutheran Children and Family Services to provide Christmas presents for children who are served by LCFS. We have a longstanding relationship with the children of Martin Luther Silver Springs School, donating school supplies, books, Christmas presents and financial support to this extraordinary school which educates at risk children. Each summer, in partnership with Thrivent, we host a picnic in a nearby park for children from Philadelphia where we do arts and crafts, take nature hikes and enjoy a picnic together. For a number of years, St. John’s members have donated to our New Generation Fund which contributes much needed money to advance the mission of a local and an international organization which help people in need.
The members of St. John’s are committed to living the command of Jesus to love and serve those in need. We invite all to join and grow with us in this important ministry.
