The Social Ministry Committee of St. John’s coordinates the congregation’s social ministry outreach and strives to alleviate the economic hardship and suffering experienced by our neighbors both near and far.
Among other endeavors, we collect food, toiletries, and household supplies to stock food pantries and help homeless shelters throughout the metropolitan area. We have a longstanding relationship with the children of Silver Springs – Martin Luther School, to whom we donate school supplies, books, holiday gifts, and financial support to this extraordinary school which educates at risk children. Each summer, in partnership with Thrivent, we host a festive picnic and lead activities for the school’s resident students.
Each year, the people of St. John’s contribute to the New Generation Fund, which shares funding between a different local and international charitable organization each year in response to urgent need in our area and around the globe. Our 2018 New Generation Fund will support Laurel House, a domestic violence agency and shelter, and Lutheran Disaster Response, which provides rapid and long-term support to victims of natural disasters in North America and beyond.
The members of St. John’s are committed to living the command of Jesus to love and serve those in need. We invite all to join and grow with us in this important ministry.
